The Pyrenean Mastiff belongs to Group 2 of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which groups together Pinscher and Schnauzer type dogs, Molossers, mountain type dogs and Swiss Cattle Dogs.

Breed characteristics

The Pyrenean Mastiff is a large, powerful and well-proportioned dog. It has a large, strong head, with small, almond-shaped, hazel eyes. The ears are medium-sized, drooping and triangular in shape. Its tail is thick and flexible, at rest, it hangs downwards, while in movement it rises in the shape of a saber with a slight thread at its end. Its coat is dense, thick and moderately long. The length of the coat is longer in certain areas such as the back, neck, belly and behind the arms and legs, as well as on the tail tuft. The basic color of the coat is white, always with a well-defined mask. The Pyrenean Mastiff is characterized by its affectionate and noble character. They are brave, highly intelligent and docile dogs. In their interactions with other dogs, they are friendly and aware of their unique power. Their bark is deep and deep.

Common health problems

Information on the most common diseases in the Pyrenean Mastiff breed is very limited. Even so, it is likely that it is predisposed to suffer from some of the most common disorders in dogs such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, volvulus-gastric dilatation and progressive retinal atrophy.
